Swim Team 101
- Swim check- Children under the age of 6 and new swim team members will be asked to attend our swim team evaluation day on Sunday May 10th, from 3:00 - 5:00 pm. The evaluation will take place with a member of our coaching staff and should only take 5-10 minutes. Come anytime within the window.
- Children should not be dropped off early for swim practice unless a parent/guardian is present. Please instruct your child to leave their clothes/towels on a bench and then go to their appropriate meeting spot for practice. We want every group to maximize their swim time so please ask that they wait patiently and do not distract the other swimmers in the groups that are finishing.
- Participation in meets is optional however we strongly encourage your child to participate ESPECIALLY the City Meet.
- Parents, your participation is required to make our summer program happen! Every family who participates in a swim meet will be required to sign up for a MINIMUM of 1 volunteer slot at a swim meet over the summer. When the meet dates and times are released, a sign-up genius will be sent via email, and you can choose a date and time that works for your family. The volunteer jobs will be as follows:
- Clerk of course (broken into early & late time slot) Responsible for assisting coaches to organize kids and get them lined up in the appropriate lane for their race
- Timer (broken into early & late time slot) Time the swimmers in their respective lane utilizing a stopwatch and then records the time for each swimmer
- Ribbon person (broken into early and late time slots): Hands out a ribbon provided by Kenilworth pool to the winner of each heat
- Meet set up: (arrive approximately 1 hour before warm ups) Assist with getting the pool ready for the meet. Get benches out, pull out starting blocks, help move chairs off the deck, pull out tables for selling items at snack bar, set up umbrellas for the timers, set up tent and speaker for race director, get stop watches out
- Meet break down: Assist with getting the pool reset after the meet. Get benches returned, pull out starting blocks, help move chairs back on the deck, return tables from snack bar, break down umbrellas for the timers, help take out trash
- Scorer: Helps to enter the races times into the computer system
- Starter: Announces each race and blows the horn for the race to begin
- Driver for the Kenilworth float: We need a truck & driver to pull the Kenilworth float for the 4th of July parade. Float will be rented
- We love and prefer our parent volunteers. Kids love seeing you at the finish line & handing out ribbons! However, we know that families are busy and sometimes you just can't make it all work! If you are unable to volunteer for a meet then you will be billed a $35.00 fee to hire some of the Kenilworth Staff in your place.
- Fun nights are a great way to meet other swimmers and to create team bonding! These events will often occur on a Friday and are optional “fun” events for the kids to sign up to participate in. Events vary each year however be on the lookout for emails related to these fun nights!
- Float for parade- A highlight for the Kenilworth Swim team is their ability to ride on the 4th of July Parade in the Kenilworth neighborhood. Participants are responsible for their own throws. More information will follow as we get closer to the parade!
- Trophy Dinner- There is an annual awards banquet for the swimmers at the end of the season. Each child will receive a participation trophy based on their years on the team and will receive any awards earned at the City Meet. The Date of this banquet is usually in early July.
- Swimsuits: Kenilworth wears royal blue swimsuits, you can choose the style that your child likes from any shop/online.
